Running Practice Mode

Your phone or tablet becomes a pool-deck terminal. Time sets live, capture every rep, manage multiple teams in one pool, and get clean data for attendance and predictions.

About 8 minutes

For: Coaches

Why this matters

Practice mode replaces the stopwatch, the clipboard, and the 'who-was-in-lane-3-again?' problem. Everything that happens in the water flows into your athletes' profiles automatically — which means better attendance records, real practice-time data for meet predictions, and cleaner post-practice conversations.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

Open Practice mode from your dashboard

On your coach dashboard, tap the big green Practice button in the bottom center. This opens Practice mode — designed to work on a phone, tablet, or propped up at the pool deck.

  2. 2

Pick the teams that are in the pool

If you coach multiple teams, pick which ones are training right now. Everyone in the pool will show up on one screen, color-coded by team. If you only have one team, it's pre-selected.

  3. 3

    Assign athletes to lanes

Drag athlete cards into lanes, or let the auto-assign fill lanes by team and pace group. You can rearrange any time during practice — for example, moving a fast sprinter into a distance lane for one specific set.

    You'll know it worked when

Every lane shows the swimmers currently swimming there.

  4. 4

    Start the workout

The workout you pushed for today appears at the top. Tap Start Set for the first set. The big clock on your screen shows the send-off interval counting down. You call the sets out loud as you normally would — the clock just helps you stay on time.

  5. 5

    Capture times per rep (optional)

For sets where you want data, tap the finish button next to each athlete as they touch the wall. The time gets recorded against that set for that swimmer. You don't have to do this for every set — just the ones where the times matter (race-pace sets, test sets, threshold sets).

  6. 6

    Take attendance as you go

Swipe right on any athlete to mark them Present. Swipe left to mark Absent. Tap to add an Excused note. This happens naturally as you look around the pool deck — no separate attendance moment needed.

    You'll know it worked when

The attendance indicator at the top shows all athletes accounted for.

  7. 7

    End the practice

When practice is over, tap End Practice. A summary appears: who attended, sets completed, average pace by lane, and any standout times. Tap Save and everything lands on each athlete's profile.
