Getting Started as an Individual Swimmer
No team? No problem. Beyond the Blocks gives you AI-generated workouts, meet predictions, and a full career profile — on your own schedule.
If you swim on your own (or with a team that doesn't use BTB yet), this is how you get a personalized training plan, track your times, and share a professional profile.
Your first 10 minutes
Follow these steps in order. You can pause and come back anytime.
- 1
Sign up with your email
Go to beyondtheblocks.io and tap 'Get Started Free'. Pick 'Individual Swimmer' when it asks what kind of account you want. Enter your email and create a password.
You'll know it worked when
You land on a short setup wizard that asks about your swimming.
- 2
Pick your primary events
Choose the 2–4 events you swim most — like 100 freestyle, 200 IM, 100 backstroke. Your AI training plan is built around these. You can change them later.
- 3
Enter your current personal bests
For each event you picked, type in your best time. If you don't know it exactly, a close estimate is fine. The AI uses these to set realistic training paces and to predict race times.
You'll know it worked when
Each event shows a best time next to it in MM:SS.ss format.
- 4
Tell us about your training schedule
How many days a week do you swim? How long are your sessions? Do you have access to a pool every day or only a few days? Are you doing dryland or strength work? One screen, a few taps.
- 5
Answer the wellness questions
Sleep, diet, and injury status. This takes about 90 seconds and makes a huge difference — the AI will tell you to back off on a hard day if you're running on 5 hours of sleep.
- 6
Review your first AI workout
When you finish the wizard, your first personalized workout appears. It's built for you — your events, your training days, your equipment. Read it, tweak it if you want, then save.
You'll know it worked when
You see a workout titled something like 'Your Monday Threshold Set' on your home screen.
Key features, explained
Your AI training plan
Every week, Beyond the Blocks builds a plan tailored to your events, your personal bests, your recovery status, and the meets coming up. You can regenerate, edit, or swap any workout. The AI learns from what you actually complete.
Logging your practice times
When you swim a set, log the times right after. Open the workout, tap the set, and type in what you held. This is how the AI calibrates your training paces — and how your meet predictions get more accurate over time.
Meet predictions
Add a meet from the Meets tab and the AI will predict your time range for every event, based on your practice data. After the meet, you'll see prediction vs. actual — you'll be surprised how close it gets.
How predictions workSharing a public profile
You get a shareable profile link for college recruiters, grandparents, or anyone cheering you on. Meet results, personal bests, and career progression in one clean page. No login needed for viewers.
